On the 6th April 1810 Burdett was Committed to the Tower by the House of Commons for asserting the legal rights of the British People. Parliament then reversed the decision a few weeks later. Burdett was then called “the enemy of corruption and the constitutional friend of his sovereign.
The political movements of the late 18th and early 19th centuries culminated in the Reform Acts of 1832.
